For the Coffee Lover: Backyard Coffee & Sophie’s Mom

I love coffee in the mornings. Come to think of it. I also love coffee mid-afternoons… and even evenings. It wakes me up but also gives me this sense of calm with my thoughts— probably because I usually have it during my quiet time, along with a good book and my journal. 🙂  It also reconnects me with friends! I love how we have all these coffee places around the metro, but it has also become so hard to find a quiet and relaxing coffee place. Last week I went out for coffee with a couple of really good friends on different dates. (Thank God for long weekends and holidays!) After an early dinner with Cess and Joyce at Juju Eats, Joyce, our newly pregnant friend (Whaaaa still so happy for her!!! Yaaaaaaaay!!) had to go home with the hubby so Cess and I decided to look for a nice place to have coffee and catch up.

We found ourselves in Sophie’s Mom at Tuscany, Mckinley Hill. I have passed this coffee shop so many times and found its interior nice and comfy—though a little too girly for my taste. 🙂

We got there around past 9pm and was greeted by their very nice and attentive staff. We stayed at the mezzanine part of the place. Coffee and cupcakes were delicious! But what I loved most about it is its cozy ambiance. Cess and I had a grand time talking about almost anything (as we always do), and didn’t notice that they actually closed up. No, they’re not one of those establishments who’d turn off their lights on you, or tell you that they are closing up. They patiently waited and were even happy to take some of our photos on our way down and out.

On our way out. Even their stairs and walls are cute!

Friday came and as always, the start of my weeknights is usually spent with my closest cousin, ate Janice. We haven’t seen each other in weeks, so we opted not to do our Bible study at home, but just go out and relax and catch up. So we did some quick grocery shopping (yes, old and domesticated but I love it!), grabbed dinner and went to a place she recommended: Backyard Coffee along P. Guevarra Street.

It’s not hard to fall in love with the place. It’s nicely lit, with good temperature, and best of all, it’s quiet. I can honestly imagine myself staying there for long hours just reading and writing. I guess the only downside is it’s located inside a commercial building so it’s a bit hard to spot unless you know it’s there.

Backyard Coffee has very simple yet interesting details. Plus they have great coffee, interesting desserts and pastries, and their staff are nice and friendly too. I’ll definitely come back to this place (I mean, I still have to try their cakes! Haha!) Call me a coffee lover, but my theory: coffee improves relationships, whether it’s shared with your closest friends or enjoyed by yourself. <3 I’m always constantly looking for places to visit and try out! Do you have hole-in-the-wall coffee places in Metro Manila (or nearby provinces) you’d like to recommend? Let me know!

Yay!
